Asking if it is too much is sometimes a test

“Is this too much?” can be an honest question. It can also be a trapdoor.

If the answer gets stuck, she learns something. If the answer is too safe, she learns that too. The question lets her watch a man negotiate between politeness and the truth sitting right in front of him.

Good lighting keeps finding her

Some people find good lighting once by accident. Others keep ending up by the window, under the warm lamp, beside the clean mirror, wherever the phone suddenly makes sense.

That is not a crime. It is taste with timing. She knows the same outfit can look ordinary in one corner and unfair in another.
